Keys for British cars. Wilmot Breeden: FRN, FA, FP, FS, and FT. Keys have the letters and numbers stamped on side of the key; word UNION on reverse side. Rubber headed single sided key, WASO used on late model XKE's and XJ's.
The number range, FRN is 01 thru 25; FA is 501 thru 625; FP 626 thru 750; FS 876 thru 955 and FT 101 thru 225. The number was stamped on the face of the car ignition switch on early cars. One key worked the switch and the doors. Key was round in shape. If a 2nd key was with the car, for the glove box or the trunk, the number is stamped on the housing of the lock or the stem of the trunk handle. The shape of the key is oblong or T-shape. In the owners handbook, you could write down the key number in the booklet. Information was taken from a XK140 and 3.8 Jaguar sedan. The numbers are also shown on the car's build record.
The fee for the build record for members of Jaguar Club of North America Inc. is $25.00; for non-members, cost is $40.00. For owners of S.S.; Daimler and Jaguar cars residing in the North America (USA, its Territories & Canada) to get the build record of your car, S.S.; Daimler or Jaguar, need to request a Vehicle Information Request Form. The address is: Jaguar Cars Archives, Attn: Archivist, 555 MacArthur Blvd., Mahwah, N.J.07430. Tel (201) 818-8144 or Fax (201) 818-0281. Available 24 hours a day. You also need to specify if key codes are needed.
Owners residing outside North America, contact the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, Attn: Archivist, Browns Lane, Allesley, Coventry, W Midlands CV5 9DR United Kingdom Tel +44-1203-202141.
For optimum service, don't buck the system. USA/Canada originated research request sent to the UK will automatically be returned to Jaguar Cars in New Jersey, U.S.A. and thus your request will be delayed. Both facilities use the same Jaguar build records. (This information provided by Karen Miller)
I can also de-code your present key if you can not locate a number, FNR, FA, FP and FS series. Make a photocopy of you key, write down any information printed on the key blank. Note, Not a locksmith. I use a Curtis NO 14 hand key cutter to cut keys by code based on number on the ignition switch or stamped numbers on the lock. If unable to find your code numbers, send the complete lock to me, I will de-code same.
